For best results, a St. Augustine lawn should be 4″ AFTER it is cut. Cutting the grass at a higher level will allow the grass to grow thicker and help keep weeds out. Cutting St. Augustine grass too low can lead to stress spots and weed infestation. It is also important to have sharp mower blades. Changing your mowing patterns will also help the appearance of your lawn.

The more sunlight a lawn has, the thicker it will be. If you have trees, it is important to keep branches trimmed at a nice canopy in order to allow sufficient sunlight on the grass. The more shade a lawn has, the thinner it will most likely be, especially during the summer rainy season.

Sodding of St. Augustine Turf

It is best to sod March 15 – April 30, or October 15 – November 15. When sodding, it is important to consider the type of St. Augustine grass you will need. For full sun areas, Floratam will work best. For shaded areas, Seville will work best.

Tips for Shrubs

– Irrigation of shrubs is normally half of what you would do for your lawn.
– It is best to trim plants after they complete the blooming process.
– It is best to plant or transplant most shrubs March through May.
– Check plants under trees closely for moss. Hand pull where you are able.
– Check plants on a regular basis for vines. Hand pulling is the best option.
– If you have white scale on your sago palms, please trim the affected fronds immediately and call us for treatment.
